The Need:

During the fall/winter of 2009/2010, Conexus Indiana needed 8 hours of “seat-time” content specifically targeted towards High School students.

The Clearly Trained Solution:

We created 14 interactive courses, plus one interactive game, which spanned the broad topics of Manufacturing and Logistics processes. The content was created completely from scratch, and the lessons included quizzes, interactions, narrative/dialogue, and in-class lesson plans. The custom manufacturing and logistics game included character animation, 3D illustrated environments, non-linear interactions which allowed users to create and design their own MP3 player (something high-schoolers could be interested in). The overall goals for the game were to allow a student to design his or her own product, control costs, and ultimately, make a profit. The student was then rewarded (or scolded) on how well he or she paid attention to consumer research.

Project Details:

This project was developed from Nov 16th 2009 – Jan 5th, 2010, with a strict deadline. Being the holiday season, that made it a daunting process indeed. We immediately started researching and working with the client to develop a detailed course outline. Once research was finished and clear courses were in place on paper, we developed animations and narration (both spoken and on-screen) for each course. We had to speed up our usual development time, due to the client needing the finished project immediately after the school’s holiday break. In essence, once we researched and had everything mapped out, we developed a course a day (which is very fast) without losing an ounce (or megabyte) of quality.

Then came the game, something that would typically take two months (being that it had multiple locations, like offices and 3d shipping docks, along with fully animated characters.) We put the time in to complete the game in 2.5 weeks, and still had time left over to celebrate the holidays.

In the end, the entire project was finished early, to our client’s delight.

End Result:

Conexus Indiana was extremely pleased with our work and our ability to meet what all agreed was an almost impossible deadline. The finished project showed no sign of being hurried, and had plenty of “extras”, like custom animations and engaging humor.

The client needed the project to “prove” that this complex topic could be taught to high school students so they could get funding for additional projects. As of this writing, according to Conexus head Steve Dwyer (the former VP of Rolls Royce) that is exactly what happened – our project proved a success, and more funding for additional projects has been secured.
